Diamond who recently welcomed a baby with his spouse, Zari Hassan and who only days ago emerged the biggest winner at the Afrika Music Magazine Awards held in Texas, defeated Nigeria’s Yemi Alade and Davido who earlier on emerged Best Male and Best Female at MAMA, African version of the EMA. Fans have however been raising eyebrows as to how the Tanzanian was able to defeat the Johnny singer and her HKN counterpart. The category also had South African rapper, AKA and francophone act, Dj Arafat.
The organisers have however disclosed that Diamond Platnumz emergence was a result of the huge number of votes he received on the MTV website. Observers also believe Yemi Alade and Davido might have divided the Nigerian votes while the East Africans fully gave out their support to their son, Diamond. AKA’s loss not also be unrelated to his ongoing beef with fellow country man, Cassper Nyovest which might have affected his votes from South African fans who are Cassper’s fans.
Others who have won the MTV EMA for Best African act are: Sauti Sol (2014), LCNVL (2013), D’Banj (2012 & 2007), Freshlyground (2006) and 2Face (2005).
