
She subsequently pulled out of the ongoing All African Games in Brazzaville, Congo. Blessing however shocked many when she ran an impressive 10.98 seconds at the Diamond League in Zurich over the weekend emerging 2nd. This development infuriated the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Athletic Federation of Nigeria who have now handed the Delta born athlete a ban.
Blessing Okagbare will now be left out of the Nigerian team that will be participating at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
‘We have to take a stand to save our nation from athletes who feel they are untouchable’, NSC Director General, Al Hassan Yakmu said.
It however remains unknown if the 26 year old athlete will be appealing the ban as she is yet to make any official comment since the announcement by the Sports authorities.
