Even as President Goodluck Jonathan goes back and forth with the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) over the true identity of the perpertrators of the Oct 1st bombing in Abuja, details are beginning to emerge as to why invited UK singer Leona Lewis cancelled her scheduled performance at the THISDAY-hosted event on the same day.
According to an official statement from the X-Factor winner, “Out of respect for those victims, it is with regret that I have had to postpone my performance.”
Leona was scheduled to headline a dinner event with high-level dignitaries including Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Jonathan, to mark 50 years of Nigeria’s Independence, but the festivities were thrown into confusion following two explosions in Abuja earlier on that day. Sadly, at least 12 people were killed in the act of terror and the songbird felt it was inappropriate to go ahead with the show prompting her decision to call it off.
