Veteran columnist, Chief Pini Jason Onyegbaduo, popularly known as Pini Jason has passed away.
Jason is reported to have died on Saturday afternoon in a Lagos hospital after undergoing a surgical procedure a few days ago.
He was aged 65.
Vanguard reports that ‘Jason was a long time Vanguard columnist who took a leave of absence in 2007 to work as special assistant on special duties to former Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State. He returned to writing his column at the newspaper following Mr. Ohakim’s exit as Governor in 2011.
Jason’s last article ‘A letter to Yushau Shuaib’ was published on Tuesday April 30 2013.
President Goodluck Jonathan has mourned the passing away Jason through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati. It reads:
‘I am sorry to hear of the death of Pini Jason, a very decent man. His attitude to life was always positive. He wrote columns that were set apart by their clarity, thoughtfulness, sound knowledge and commitment to public good. We have lost another true defender of the people’s interests. He will be sorely missed by the Nigerian media family, and particularly his numerous readers. My best wishes to his family’.
Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
