The wedding almost never happened – with court injunctions, wild media war, and pastoral blacklists working together to frustrate the pair’s plan to tie the knot. Previously married Odi had a bitter ex-wife to deal with, and the court of public opinion was vehemently against the union.
Friends advised Mercy Johnson to call it quits. Unsolicited counsel came from bloggers and colleagues. The church threatened not to join them together.
But, like the plot of a Nollywood movie, the actress went on and got married to Odi on August 27, 2011.
‘She must be out of her senses‘, one commenter said at the time. And the actress’s anniversary message, yesterday, confirms she ignored her sense of reasoning and took the leap.
It’s now four years since that controversial wedding. Many contracted after it have already packed up.
While the wedding was surrounded by controversy, their marriage has so far been free from drama. They have two kids together. It is possible Mercy is expecting her 3^rd child.
