One of Nigeria’s veteran female singers, Stella Monye, will on Sunday, April 28, 2013 be celebrating her long years in the music industry in a grand style.
Fondly referred to as the ‘Samba Queen’, Stella plans to use the day to celebrate both her 50th birthday and the 30th anniversary of her music career. The singer will also use the occasion to officially unveil the remix of her 18-track album titled, ‘Best of Stella Monye’.
The event tagged ‘Stage Players Party’ is expected to bring together entertainment icons and top government dignitaries to be entertained by live music. There will also be a grand performance by Monye herself as well as other features like Comedy, drama, fashion, dance and art exhibitions.
In a telephone chat with NET, Monye told our reporter that her friends initiated the project which is going to be holding at the Bespoke Centre, Lekki, Lagos just to celebrate her 50th birthday in style. ‘The high point of the event will definitely be the unveiling of my new album which is a remix of some of my old songs that will be performed by some of the younger generation of artistes’, she stated.
In the 80s, the Delta State-born singer dominated the air-waves with her award-winning track ‘Oko Mi Ye’ performing at the prestigious Golden Tones Concert. She also represented Nigeria in several music and arts festival all across the globe with albums like Arigosamba, Change of Heart and One Nation.
