The return leg of the 2015 Orange African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON) match between Seychelles and Sierra Leone has been cancelled by the Seychelles football federation due to the Ebola virus affecting Sierra Leone and other West Africa countries.
Speaking at a press conference, Seychelles Health Commissioner Dr Jude Gedeon said
‘The Seychelles health Ministry has decided to act and have the football match ‘postponed’, rather than risk the spread of the deadly disease’
The Sierra Leone football team, who were reportedly not allowed to board the plane in Kenya, was due to play the return leg against the Seychelles side after winning the first leg 2 – 0 on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the National Stadium, Freetown.
The Ebola virus is a human disease which typically starts manifesting two days to three weeks after being infected, with a fever, throat and muscle pains, and headaches.
