The news of Ego Omalicha‘s recent name change and statement on parting ways with QuestionMark Entertainment hasn’t been received well by the label as they insist she is still signed to them.
The singer, whose real name is Jennifer Oduah, recently announced through her publicist that she had officially dropped the name ‘Ego’ and was now going by the name ‘Safarie‘. The statement also explained that Ego had severed ties with the label because, according to her, they differed in opinion on the direction in which her brand was going.
However, QuestionMark says this isn’t true, as its’ CEO Kevin Luciano has been on an assignment in South Africa for several weeks. The label also said their lawyer hasn’t had a meeting with the artiste regarding terminating her contract or her desire for a name change.
‘Her contract with the label which was signed in 2010 is still valid. So far, the label has footed bills for material we deem commercially viable and marketable. Like every label in the world, we give creative direction and advice but leave the artiste to implementing. She has indeed put out material without our backing after her decision to change her sound which we don’t approve’ QuestionMark posted on their blog.
As regard her name change, it was also not discussed with the label. Label settled to have her stage name as ‘Ego’ as it matched the sound/music which got her signed to the label as heard and seen in the video for ‘Omalicha’ which eventually was added to her name ‘Ego’ nd she never discussed the desire to change her name which might have been considered’, the statement reads further.
But the singer’s publicist insists that she has indeed left. Speaking to NET, he said he’s confused as to why they released that statement concerning the matter.
‘She finally left them, she’s gone. I don’t understand why they are saying this‘ said Paul Hitbanger.
