The money was presented on Sunday, April 20, 2014, on behalf of Odemwengie by Austin Uwagboe, who said the donation was part of the striker’s way of showing appreciation. Odemwingie had earlier donated jerseys and other training kits to Bendel insurance FC.
The sole administrator of the club, Austin Eguavoen, received the donation and applauded the footballer for his contribution to the growth of the club.
Eguavoen also called on well-meaning Edo people and former Insurance players to emulate Odemwingie in coming to the assistance of the club.
Odemwingie started his professional career at Bendel Insurance in 2000, and while there he scored 19 goals in 53 league appearances.
