Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has won the personality of the year award at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.
The Oscar winner beat Nigeria’s Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, author Chimamanda Adichie and Ivory Coast football star Yaya Toure to win the award, which was held on June 7, 2014, at the International Convention Centre, Durban.
Though not present at the awards, the actress sent in a recorded speech.
‘Thanks to Africa for Africa for always supporting me’, she said.
