It’s breakfast season with love from Damini Ogulu.

Breakfast is the new Nigerian parlance for heartbreak popularised on social media.
Burna Boy, the African Giant, dropped a new single on Friday, May 13, 2022, ‘Last Last’, four months after releasing his last single ‘B. D’OR’ featuring Wizkid.
‘Last Last’, a single off the Grammy-winners upcoming album, ‘Love, Damini’, comes two weeks after his historic sold out ‘One Night in Space’ concert at the Madison Square Garden in the United States, on April 28, 2022.
Although the chorus ‘I need Igbo (Indian hemp) and shayo (alcohol)’ may give the song away as promoting drugs and alcohol. It is more than that, it embodies deep feelings of loss and heartbreak and how he’s trying to distract himself with alcohol.
Burna Boy talks about how he had to say goodbye to his lover and accept the cruel fate that ‘Last Last na everybody go chop breakfast’ (heartbreak will go round).
He also talks about his losses, how he ‘could have been run over’ on February 26, 2022, after crashing his Ferrari in Lekki, and other experiences that have shaped his life.
Burna, who was raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, also talked about the killing of George Soboma, one of the most dreaded Niger Delta militants in the early 2000s and leader of ‘The Outlaws’ (a cult group).
“I dey Port Harcourt when dey kill Soboma,” he said.
30-year-old Soboma was gunned down by a rival group in Port Harcourt on August 24, 2010.
All these experiences now make his “feelings swing like jangolova”.
The single features a sample of Toni Braxton’s 2000 R&B hit, “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”
Malcolm ‘Chopstix’ Ologundoye produced the song, and Burna Boy made his directorial debut with the visuals of the single.
‘Love, Damini’, his sixth studio album, will be released on July 1. The album would contain 19 tracks, including Kilometer and Last Last.
Positive reactions have continued to greet the release of ‘Last Last’ from some of Nigeria’s music enthusiasts.
Music journalist Joey Akan described the song as ‘another high men soundtrack.’
Movie director Diji Aderogba also said ‘make we no lie, make we no steal, Burna Boy is clearrrrr.’
