James Amuta has been nominated for the best cinematographer at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). He was nominated for the movie, Collision Course.
Amuta was nominated alongside Muhammed Ahmed, Wale Adebayo, Moruf Fadaro, John Demps, Victoria Ombogo and Barnabas Emordi for their work in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, Amina, The Mystic River, Nneka The Pretty Serpent, Just in Time and Superstar, respectively.
The award is returning for its eighth edition after last year’s own was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The category is one of the most looked out for as it recognises and celebrated the work behind the scene. While actors have visible recognitions due to their roles in movies, cinematographers, by the nature of their job, are hardly seen. This category celebrates their significant impacts on movie production.
John Demps will be hoping to win the award after winning the 7th edition of the award for Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, the sequel to the 1992 blockbuster movie. He won the award ahead of other nominees, Cardoso for God Calling, Niyi White, Gbenga Fifolabi and Abiola Ladipo for their work on Ratnik and Mohammed Attah for The Set Up.
AMVCA 8 will be a week-long event featuring a series of activities. The week-long event begins with the opening night on Sunday, May 7 and will run through May 14, when the award night will hold in Lagos.
