Speculation had been going around for a while now but just yesterday Saturday, December 17, 2011 Senegalese-American singer Akon revealed that he has signed Nigerian pop acts Wizkid, 2face, and twin duo Psquare to his Konvict Music label.
Akon revealed this to pressmen at Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha’s CLUB 10 where the unveiling of energy drink Citron took place. Akon is a brand ambassador for the drink.
The Konvict/KON Live boss was glad to share the news with his followers on Twitter, ‘In Nigeria with my brothers about to take over Africa with @2faceidibia and @wizkidayo big up to P-square’, @Akon tweeted.
It can be recalled that the singer had featured on a remix of Wizkid’s ‘Don’t dull’ and was seen with 2face back in June in Atlanta, Georgia.
Banky also hinted at the big news as he tweeted ‘But!!!!! Last night was kinda epic. Bigups to the EMEazzyyy + Konvict Music runz. Shoutout to everyone that saw the evidence 🙂’; adding ‘Last night was KINDA heavy… 🙂 Thank u to everybody that believed in and supported what we’ve been tryna do… Na God dey do am… God bless U real good!!!’.
Details of the deals are still sketchy as the Grammy Award winning act didn’t go into details but made it known that the signing had been done earlier.
Phone calls placed to 2face’s management Now Muzik were not answered neither where text messages replied.

Guys slow down here! Before we get uber excited, you gotta really investigate. No one, I repeat no one has expressely mentioned anything about signing in their statements or tweets. Akon’a tweet may simply indicate a collaboration while Banky’s may just be expressing joy that Akon is impressed by the efforts of these guys, hence the endorsement.

I luv dat
Even if Akon has signed them, their music will still be marketed in Africa since the American and European markets won’t patronize them enough for Konvict Music to get any serious money from their records. Even as D’banj signed with Kanye West, typical Americans still have never heard of D’banj before. They don’t even know that he and Snoop did a song together because they air all these foreign collaborations in Africa only. Why do u think El Dee came back? African music doesn’t sell abroad. Except for the likes of Fela and other contemporary legends. But I’m still happy for them if they ARE truly signed, maybe this will help them to improve on the quality and substance of their music and become true international stars in their due time
Dis is reali kul u knw may gud make d music industry grow beta
