Reggie, widely called the grandfather of Hip life, said he is still promoting the musical style which is influence by hip hop, dance-hall and reggae till date.
Speaking in a recent interview with GHbase, the rapper, born Reginald Osei, admitted that some rappers went ahead of him in Ghana but but says he brought founded the genre.
‘It’s true some people rapped before I came in but I originated Hiplife and promoted it till date. That is why each time Hiplife is mentioned, my name comes up,’ he added.
Reggie Rockstone, who started the Hip-life movement back in 1994, is believed to have played an important role in the development of this uniquely African genre in Ghana’s capital Accra. Up till date, he raps in the local Twi as well as English.
