BBNaija is now confirmed to be the biggest TV show in Nigeria, and Africa at large. It is the biggest Big Brother franchise in the world. The BBNaija Lockdown edition which ended on Sunday, September 28, 2020, reached millions around the world, trending locally and globally. And it produced a new superstar: Olamilekan Agbeleshe, widely known as Laycon.
The 26-year-old artiste started a movement with his exceptional performance and his peaceful coexistence with almost all housemates in the Big Brother House. But initially, his reason for entering the contest was just to get face time and promote his music.
Laycon released his Extended Playlist (EP) on April 2, 2020, before the commencement of the BBN Lockdown edition. This audio journey of sorts, sees Laycon open up about creative conflict, love and street credibility. And he’s used his time on the show to make everyone familiar with his music. He entered BBNaija with 45.5k Instagram followers. He left with 1.5m followers.
The BBNaija Lockdown edition winner; is definitely not leaving the house with just the Grand prize of 85 million naira and the accolades, but the much valuable fame that comes with it. One should not forget the endorsement deals from brands that will most likely be lined up for him.
To crown it all, Laycon will be linking up with one of Nigerian music’s greatest producers and influencers, Don Jazzy, thanks to winning the Betway challenge with Dorathy.
“Who is Laycon” is the second EP by the 26-year-old singer and songwriter Laycon. The 8-track release is a perfect mash-up of rap & pop cuts which gives us a window into Laycon’s versatility and skill. The EP features Reminisce, Chinko Ekun and more.
Laycon is a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos. He started his musical journey at an early age and has now emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising new school acts.
