According to reports, an email was received from another ex-Nigerian international, Augustine Igbinobaro who is based in the US, stating that the ailing Agbonavbare urgently needs prayers and financial support from all his friends to help him survive the deadly virus.
Wilfred Agbonavbare started his football career with New Nigeria Bank in 1983 before moving to BBC Lions and Spain’s Rayo Vallecano 1990.
The 48-year old goalkeeper also appeared with the Nigerian Under-20 team at the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship in Mexico.
He played for more than one decade with the national side and was selected for the 1994 African Cup of Nations as well as the ’94 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
