Actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has expressed outrage at the blatant ignorance of people towards rape. “‘SLEEP WITH’/’SEX’ and ‘RAPE’ are not interchangeable. You cannot sleep with or have sex with a child, and anyone who doesn’t want to have sex or be slept with. It is RAPE”
The discussion on rape has been a trending conversation these past weeks on social media with cases like Uwa, a 22-year-old who was raped and killed in a church while she was reading. And Jennifer, a 12-year-old child who was raped by 11 men in Jigawa.
She goes on to charge people to admit to what rape is, so the discussions that need to happen can begin. “How are we meant to discuss rape when you won’t even call rape by its name?” Other celebrities have joined the campaign against rape on social media, by posting pictures of signs with messages condemning rape.
