Since his death in 1996, 2pac Shakur has inspired a lot of posthumous works aimed at immortalizing his legend.
A new musical ‘Holler if ya Hear Me’ inspired by 2pac is currently in the works. A developmental workshop is underway for a new show inspired by Pac, with hopes of premiering in the 2013-2014 Broadway season according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Holler will be co-produced by Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, and directed by Broadway icon Kenny Leon, who has worked on such emotionally-charged plays as A Raisin In The Sun, Fences and The Mountaintop.
The plot for Holler, though not biographical, lends a large part of its tone to Shakur’s catalogue.
The show is set in the present day, on the inner-city streets of a Midwestern industrial city, chronicling the challenges faced by two childhood friends and their extended families. The story is inspired by and unfolds to the music of Shakur, the influential rapper who died in 1996 and has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
