17 Real Madrid fans have been reportedly banned for offensive chants – ‘Messi’s a retard’ and ‘F…ing Catalonia’ – aimed at Barcelona striker, Lionel Messi.
According to Spanish newspaper, Marca, the chants were heard on Saturday, December 6, 2014 during Madrid’s 3-0 win over Celta Vigo, prompting the Anti-Violence Commission to carry out an investigation and followed up with the decision to ban the 17 supporters found guilty.
Real Madrid head coach, Carlo Ancelotti also disapproves of the attitude of the fans. In a statement, the Italian coach said:
‘Everything against violence in football is welcome. It’s not over the top to go after them but I don’t know where we draw the line. There are insults at every stadium in Spain. We should try and control what we can like acts of violence, but we are all good people until our passion for our team comes out.’
