Mikel Obi finally speaks about why he made the move to China which many have referred to as a career-killing move.
According to him, it is not because of the money like majority of his fans are assuming.
Rather, it was so that he could help push Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup holding in Russia.
Most football fans would know by now that since Antonio Conte became Chelsea’s coach, Mikel got little playing time with the first team, though, he was still active with the Nigerian national team.
He also said his decision to leave Chelsea for Tianjin Teda was made six months before the end of his contract because he needs to be fit in time for the 2018 World cup qualifiers.
‘It wasn’t an easy decision to make but I seriously need matches to stay fit for Nigeria. Nigerians don’t deserve to miss out of the World Cup after back to back failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.’
Mikel Obi joined Tianjin Teda a week ago and played his first match with them in a friendly game.
