Every woman has a vagina, but how well do they actually know this intimate part of their bodies?
From bizarre to downright scary, here are a few facts you probably didn’t know about your womanly parts.
1. Not every woman is born with a hymen
That’s right. For those who believe their hymens define their virginity or lack of it, I’m sorry to break your heart, but you probably don’t even have one to lose in the first place.
2. You can keep stuff in there
You know how easily a large penis can slide in there? So can other objects like money (which doctors advise against) and, sadly, drug peddlers sometimes hide drugs in them.
On rare occasions, sex toys have gotten stuck in there, requiring a lot of work and sometimes, medical help, to get them out. Thankfully, they can’t get lost and will be retrieved eventually.
3. They come in all shapes and sizes
Just like boobs, nipples and penises, vaginas come in different shapes and sizes.
Some are larger than others, while sometimes, the positioning of clitorises differ from person to person.
4. You can work out your vagina
Ever heard of kegels? They’re vaginal exercises that help strengthen the pelvic muscles thereby improving the intensity of orgasms.
5. It can actually fall out
Sometimes, when the support structures in charge of holding the pelvic region together weaken, the bladder or uterus push against the vagina, thereby weakening it and causing the walls to sit outside the body.
6. Douching is bad for your vagina
Do not douche. It affects the natural balance of the good bacteria that live in the vagina to help protect it from harmful infections.
7. The vagina can expand to twice its size during sex
Arousal causes an increase in the size of the vagina, making penetration easier and more pleasurable.
8. Childbirth doesn’t expand the vagina permanently
Contrary to what a lot of people think, the vagina actually goes back to its normal size after childbirth.
This means that having had a child is not responsible for your incredibly large vagina.
9. Putting it to work is actually good for you
Having regular sex, according to experts, is good for your body as it helps with anxiety and stress.
The myth that the more sex you have, the wider your vagina gets is completely false and has yet to be scientifically proven.
10. Some women have two vaginas
Uterus didelphys is a defect which occurs during development, causing the growth of two uteruses, two cervixes and sometimes, two vaginas.
On some cases, both vaginas are functional and babies can come out of either.
