Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been banned for four months from all football campaigns after biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
The Liverpool forward, who was found guilty of assaulting Chiellini on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, will not take part in nine consecutive matches for Uruguay, with a fine of £65, 000 (N18M) to pay.
A statement from FIFA read: ‘The player Luis Suarez is to be suspended for nine official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
‘The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup matches, as long as the team remains in the competition, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches. The player Luis Suarez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four months.’
Suarez is also banned from entering any stadium in which Uruguay is playing while he serves the nine-match suspension.
