The Osun State Government has named award-winning Nigerian singer Davido, as the *Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a bold move aimed at revitalizing the state’s sports sector through sustainable financing and private-sector participation.
Announcing the appointment, Kola Adewusi, the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, said the initiative reflects Governor *Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to transforming Osun’s sports landscape. He revealed that the Osogbo Township Stadium is currently undergoing extensive renovation to meet Olympic standards and will be completed “in the shortest possible time,” positioning it to host national and international competitions.
Davido also acknowledged this new role via his X account as he tweeted ‘ Let’s get to work Your Excellency’
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun chapter, Adewusi described Davido’s acceptance of the appointment as both prompt and enthusiastic.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment,” Adewusi said. “His global reputation and influence will help attract private-sector investment and sponsorships that will greatly benefit Osun’s sports development.”
The Deputy Governor also revealed that plans are at an advanced stage to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, a central body that will oversee sports administration, development, and policy implementation in the state.
