Wizkid and Yemi Alade were the big winners at the 2016 MTV African Music Awards.
Wizkid, who performed ‘Ojuelegba’ live on stage, took home three awards; Best Male Act, Artiste of the Year, and another credit for his feature on ‘Soweto Baby’ by DJ Maphorisa.
‘My people let me hear you say YEAH YEAH, I wanna say a big thank you my fans and team,’ Wizkid said as he grabbed the mic after getting his Best Male Act gong.
Yemi Alade, who co-hosted the award show alongside Bonang Matheba and Nomzamo Mbatha, won the Best Female Act award for the second consecutive year.
And in her acceptance speech, she said, ‘We’re not only good in the kitchen and other room. We’re good at everything.’
South African stars Cassper Nyovest and Emtee won for Best Live Act and Best Hip Hop Act respectively, with Shekhinah and Kyle Deutsch got the nod in the Best Pop/Alternative category.
Other winners include Kenyan pop band, Sauti Sol that won the Best Group award, and Patoranking who won the Song of the Year award for ‘My Woman’ which features Wande Coal.
