Beyonce is the executive producer of the official soundtrack of The Lion King movie that is set to hit cinemas and theatres in two days. The visuals for ‘Spirit’, one of the songs in the movie playlist was released today. You can watch the video here.
‘Spirit’ is a new song added to the original songs from the very first Lion King that was written by Beyonce. She released the audio a week ago on July 10. In the movie where she plays the role of Nala, the wife of Simba, she also gets to sing a duet with Donald Glover who plays Simba in the movie for the classic song, “Can you feel the love tonight?”
The video was shot in a desert with some scenes of the movie added to it. Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy featured in about 2 scenes in the video wearing a pink ruffle dress to match her mom’s pink and red ruffle dress. There was a lot of dance choreography and the entire cast were black people, because, black power, right? Beyonce had 9 different looks for the video.
She also rocked a blue body con dress with a hood, a green Kaftan, a red African inspired dress, a white metallic dress that came with a face mask, as well as a white fringe dress that made her look so fierce. The looks continued with a beaded blue fringed jumpsuit and a scarlet dress that had a plunging V neckline. The dancers in each of these scenes had costumes that matched whatever the queen was wearing. The video is definitely very colourful and attention-grabbing.
The soundtrack for the movie is steeped in African sounds and has 5 Nigerian artists offering different styles to it. Yesterday, the playlist and all those that were a part of its making was released, and it was revealed that Nigeria’s very own Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, and Tekno all played a part in the project.
The Lion King hits cinemas July 19th and is about 2 hours long. It also features one of our own, actor Chiwetel Ejiofor as part of the cast.
