When a conversation about the hottest African female artist comes up, it is without doubt that one of the top names on music lovers’ lips would be Tiwa Savage‘s. The African Queen has once again laid claim to that spot with the release of her new single, ’49-99’.
Tiwa Savage’s ’49-99′ was released today, September 5. The song is her first official release since she signed with Universal Music Group months ago. According to Tiwa’s camp, ’49-99′ is a term coined from the hard life many Nigerians experience and the singer uses the song to express her stand against poverty.
In the video directed by Meji Alabi, Tiwa Savage rocks various costumes that pass across her message. In one of the most notable scenes, she dresses as a seamstress, which aptly describes her support for Nigerians to make honest living. In other scenes, she is unapologetic as she shows her feminine side, while declaring that she wants to achieve the best things life could offer.
The song is believed to be the lead single off Tiwa Savage’s full length project which will be released soon. The singer’s last body of work was the critically acclaimed Sugarcane EP which spawned hits such as ‘All Over’, ‘Get It Now’ and ‘Sugarcane’.
