As the 2018 Headies draws close, let us remind you of a time in the past: 2009 when the theme song of the year was performed by MI Abaga, Banky W and Kel, produced by none other than eLDee The Don.
At the time, MI and Banky were not yet the icons they are now. But as newcomers, they’d shocked the industry by their overdose of talent and swag. Kel on her part had shown that she could hold her own against any rapper in the land, male, female or whatever.
The Headies at that time went by the former name, HipHop World Awards. It was an extension of the magazine that gave birth to today’s TV channel, Hip TV.
The theme for that year was ‘A Prize To Die For’ and the trio made an eponymous song whose impact when beyond the event.
Since then both MI and Banky W have gone on to have successful careers as artiste and record label execs. Kel hasn’t been that lucky; she’s had a stop-start career- but not for lack of talent.
The visuals to the track was directed by Kemi Adetiba.
Headies 2018 holds on Saturday, May 5 and tickets are available on NETshop.ng.
