On August 1 2018, the president through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari would be away for 10 days on a working vacation from August 3, 2018.
He also handed over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to enable him to act in his stead.
Here are three major decisions the Acting President has taken which have generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians.
1. On August 7, the Acting President terminated with immediate effect the appointment of the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Lawal Musa Daura. This was as a result of the ‘unauthorized takeover’ of the National Assembly complex which was also described as a gross violation of constitutional order and rule of law. Matthew Seiyefa, the most senior director in the DSS is actings as DG till further notice.
2. On August 14 2018, AgP Yemi Osinbajo ordered the immediate overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. According to him, the complaints and reports bothered on allegations of human rights violations. He also directed that the IGP should ensure any unit that emerges from the process will be intelligence driven and restricted to the detection of armed robbery, kidnapping and apprehension of offenders.
3. AgP Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, August 15, presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting which recorded the largest attendance of 28 ministers. The turnout was unprecedented compared to past FEC meetings chaired by President Buhari.
