The Golden Globe Awards held last night and among the #MeToo speeches going on, and all the beautiful black dresses adorning the Beverly Hilton venue red carpet, NET highlights the two movies which emerged with the highest wins.
‘3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ and ‘Big Little Lies’ won four awards each, and below is a synopsis of both movies.
‘3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’
The movie is about a mother seeking vengeance for her daughter’s murder and the somewhat inefficiencies of the town’s police force. It follows a mother who, when the police in her town failed to find a suspect in her daughter’s murder, decides to take matters into her own hands. The woman takes her need for vengeance a ton higher by purchasing three billboards to call public attention to the unsolved crime, polarizing the community.
She is convinced the Police are spending too much time “torturing black folks” than finding her daughter’s murderer. The movie has very strong language and violence despite it being funny. It won Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actress (drama) and Best film (drama). As at its third week of release, the film had grossed $4.4 million from 614 theatres.
‘Big little lies’
This movie won Best mini-series or TV movie, Best supporting actress in a series, limited series or TV film, Best supporting actor in a series, limited series or TV film and Best actress in a limited series or TV film. It plays on a darkly comedic tale of murder and mischief in the beachfront town of Monterey, Calif.
The movie explores society’s myths regarding perfection and its opinion on marriage, sex, parenting, and friendship. It is based on the book ‘Big Little Lies’ and if you liked ‘Pretty Little Liars’, then this may very well be a movie for you. It stars Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, and Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley and will be having a second season.
