Years after burning his hands with dodgy management deals, rising singer/songwriter Kay Jay Ogbonna has finally found a home as he recently signed with The Boost Entertainment.

Kay Jay, who has written a number of hit songs for several A-list  artistes including Iyanya (Iyanu Mashele), KCEE (Burn and Psycho), Naeto C, Kach (Olo), Chuddy K (Go Down), Stunna (Balance featuring Iyanya), Samklef, Tillaman, Bimbi Phillips (Duro Dada) and Tunde Ednut (Catching Cold)- put pen to paper for the company which would now handle all of his work from now.

Born Victor Ogbonna in Abia State, he got into music in 2012 and has released a number of singles alongside his credits from other musicians. With songs such as ‘Sell Over’ featuring Skales & Omo Akin (Produced by Kenny Wonder) and ‘Work & Pray’ featuring Shaydee (Produced by Blaq Jerzee), his next single is billed for November 2018.

“I signed with The Boost Entertainment firstly because we have the same vision, I see them making me one of the biggest artists in Nigeria and beyond. Despite being newly established, this is one of the first and few music management companies in Nigeria that fund the artist, and I feel that is how it should be – it gave me even more assurance to work with them,” he said at his signing. “They are not just bringing funds, strategy and ideas; they are bringing full hands-on involvement and direction, with a unique attention to visual content creation – this is the structure that many (new/upcoming and young) Nigerian artists require to launch and succeed, our problems have always been how to finance and how to promote our music.”

His new management also expressed satisfaction with the act.

“With this official signing of Kay Jay our first artist, we plan to activate and create a new SI unit for music content management and creative business positioning. Fate had its way when we crossed paths with Kay Jay while in search for music talents. The Boost Entertainment was established with a mission to catapult noteworthy artists to greater heights by providing all the fundamental support that artists require to initiate, expand, and progress”.

Kay Jay on his part already has big dreams that he hopes his new working relationship will help make true. “Five years from now I see myself becoming a big brand, winning multiple awards, opening an NGO to give back to communities by feeding the homeless and helping the less privileged. I also hope to write a book about the business of songwriting, in which I will detail the challenges we face as songwriters in the Nigerian music industry.”

It may not be a long shot as he’s currently nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2018 ‘Fresh Vibes of The Year’ category alongside the likes of Davido’s artist Peruzzi. Kay Jay is certainly in good company.
