With the growing popularity of feminism, a movement that fights for social, political, economic, sexual and all kinds of equality of the sexes, more women are becoming aware of the power that they have, not just as females, but as equals with their male counterparts.
Or so I thought, until it came to the topic of whether it was okay for women to make the first move on men they fancied.
A while ago, this argument ensued on twitter Nigeria.
While a few saw absolutely nothing wrong with it, majority thought it was a degrading move that bordered on being desperate. Others blamed it on the African culture and how very few men born and bred in this part of the world would respect a woman that didn’t wait to be approached first.
It was truly an eye-opening discussion for some of us who never thought it was that serious (awa true feminists!).
One tweet that particularly caught my attention was one from a certain @theivuoma who said that Nigerian men might start to wonder what the real reason behind such a desperate act was.
If you ask Nigerian guy out they start thinking something is wrong with you

Me I was just there like WAWUUU!
So while Nigerian women are learning a lesson on patience and are dutifully waiting for their African bobos to come and pluck them like flowers, some ladies from other parts of the world are making things happen and boldly going after what they want.
One twitter user, @LeahRenee_ shared an interesting story with her followers about how she’d been the first to DM a man she liked
Ladies y’all better shoot ya shot I’m telling you !!!! pic.twitter.com/vYNWxXI8iy

So ladies, will y’all be shooting ya shot? How many of us will boldly go after what we want without fear of rejection?
Is it really a bad idea for a woman to approach the man of her dreams?
