Renowned socialite turned politician, Shina Peller (APC) has emerged victorious in the election tribunal that was brought against him over the validity of the process that brought him into power as the House of Representative member for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency.
The petition which was dismissed on Friday, July 13 was filed by his opponent, Durodola Muftau Adelani of the Providence People’s Party, PPP in Ibadan, Oyo state to challenge the election that was conducted on February 23, 2019 on the grounds that his name and logo were excluded from the ballot papers provided by INEC.
After evaluation of the evidence that Mr. Adelani presented to the tribunal, the panel ruled that he was not officially nominated by his party for the position and as such his credentials were not properly submitted to INEC. This led to the exclusion of his name and party’s logo from the ballot papers.
It was also established that none of the three respondents that he mentioned in his suit were at fault. The respondents which included Shina Peller, All Progressive Congress, APC and the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC were absolved of any wrongdoing.
Mr Adelani was ordered to pay a fine of 20,000 Naira to each of the three respondents as Hon. Shina Peller was upheld as the rightful winner of the election.
