Months after revealing his interest for a Grammy recognition, Afrobeat maestro, Seun Kuti has been deservedly nominated. In October, the singer shared on social media that he had submitted his 2018 Black Times album with the legendary Egypt 80 band for consideration at the 61st Grammy Awards. Six weeks later, the nominees have been revealed, and the album landed a nomination in the ‘Best World Album’ category.

The Black Times album which was ranked in our 2018 10 Best Albums list is a follow up to his 2014, A Long Way To The Beginning LP.

With the politically charged Black Times album, Seun Kuti employs the services of his late father’s iconic Egypt 80 band and delivers an extremely melodious wake-up call. Kuti preached against corruption and all form of social and economic injustice that stems from poor governance.
