Senator Elisha Abbo has been taken to court for assault today, various reports say. The lawmaker had been caught on camera repeatedly raining slaps on a woman at an adult sex toy shop in Abuja.
Abbo had claimed the incident was before he was sworn in as Senator and offered what many considered a tepid apology.
The lawmaker had been subsequently interrogated and detained by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. Reports today say police have now filed criminal charges against Abbo and he has been taken to the Zuba Magistrates’ Court, Abuja.
Police Commissioner in the FCT, Bala Ciroma, is quoted as saying the case against Elisha Abbo, a PDP lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, will be heard at the court today.
Prosecutors are expected to tender the viral video as evidence before the court, while Abbo’s statement in which he admitted to the crime is also expected to be admissible as evidence of his culpability.
