The 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held on January 21, 2018, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Morgan Freeman was awarded the Lifetime achievement award which was presented to him by his friend of 50 years – Rita Moreno.
The 80-year-old Veteran actor thanked his family who had flown out for the award before going on to say his speech, particularly calling out the SAG on their gender-specific award statue. If there were four things, we were reassured of by Morgan Freeman’s speech, they are:
- He is naturally funny and he has a pretty good opinion of himself, his talents and the work he has done in and for the Hollywood industry.
- He is so gracious but still does not mind calling out someone who ‘disrespectfully’ talks while he is talking.
- He knows how to make his friends and family feel special by the way he treats them and how fondly he talks about them and to them.
- He likes to send the trend of events that follow after he has been somewhere, just like he did by talking about the gender-specificity of the ‘Screen Actor’s Guild’ award statue- seeing that it is a male statue.
