Lionel Messi missed a penalty that could have potentially won the game for Argentina as the South-American team settled for a one all draw with World cup debutants Iceland.
Argentina who were favourites to win the game looked dominating from the beginning of the game and Sergio Agüero put the Argentines in front following a Marcos Rojo assist in the 19th minute.
However, their celebration was shortlived as Iceland fired back with an equaliser as Alfreð Finnbogason has scored Iceland’s first ever goal at a #WorldCup Tournament.
The first half score remained the same into the second half as Argentina continued to search for their second. They finally got a chance to do that in the 64th minute but 5 times World FIFA Player of the Year, Lionel Messi failed to beat goalkeeper Hannes Þór Halldórsson.
Argentina and Iceland are in group D alongside Nigeria and Croatia who will play their opening group game by 8 pm in Kaliningrad Stadium.
