As news trickled in that Nollywood filmmaker, Chinwe Egwuagu had perfected works on the sequel of Mr. and Mrs., there have been doubts from different quarters on whether the film will surpass the success of the first one.
But she was quick to clear this while reiterating that the film, titled Mr. and Mrs. Revolution will surpass, in all standards, any form of success that the first instalment commanded.
Reacting to the skepticism expressed in some quarters on whether the movie will be able to match the goodwill the first one enjoyed, Chinwe Egwuagu said, ‘When we did Mr and Mrs in 2011, we did not know it would command so much goodwill and commercial success but it surpassed everyone’s expectations.
‘What we did was to pay attention to our own part and ensure that we deliver quality and lovable movie. We did that and the result speaks for itself.
‘This is the same thing we have done for the Chapter two which is why we are confident that Mr and Mrs Chapter Two will surpass the success of the first one. It is not boasting. I only know that we have done our part and the other part rest with viewers whom I believe will love it,’ she said.
Recall that Mr. and Mrs. starred Joseph Benjamin and Nse Ikpe-Etim, and got a number of awards and nominations, including Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Screenplay, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Costume Design, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Editing, Nollywood Movie Awards for Best Lead Actress (Nse Ikpe-Etim), and many others.
Now, Mr and Mrs Revolution has laid those characters to rest and employed the expertise of Rita Dominic and Chidi Mokeme.
Both actresses are well grounded in their craft while Chidi Mokeme and Joseph Benjamin are also prolific actors.
One will have to wait till the movie premieres on April 21 to find out if indeed, the standard has been surpassed.
Mr and Mrs Revolution tells the story of a couple, Sharon (Rita Dominic) and Kobi (Chidi Mokeme) who attempts to tell the truth about some of the conflicts, confinement, independence, and struggles in marriages.
The pursuit to keep their marriage intact and save their private lives leads to the various dramatic and intense scenes that follow.
Other notable stars in the movie are Tana Adelana, Akin Lewis, Yaw and Munachi Abii.
