Pastor Poju Oyemade, the Senior Pastor of Covenant Christain Centre has spoken out on the terrible accident that happened on Otedola Bridge yesterday even which has claimed about 9 lives so far and involved over 50 vehicles.
As rescue operations are still ongoing, Nigerians have been reacting to the incident, calling for prayers and forgiveness from God. But that is not the case for the Pastor. In a tweet he posted concerning the tragedy, the clergyman stated that if Nigerians keep resorting to religious explanations for practical problems, then there will not be progress as a nation.
Just 24 hours before the fire incident, Pastor Poju had also on twitter said: “God always gives warning signs when danger lies ahead. We ignore these either in arrogance, a sense of invincibility stemming from previous successes or due to status-quo bias”

If we keep resorting to religious explanations for our practical problems we will not progress as a nation. The main purpose of prayer is to hear from God. He gives you instructions on what to do. It’s our doing something that changes things. Prayer by itself won’t, action does.
