There was no better way to open the much awaited Fela Kuti museum than to do so on what would have been his 74th birthday.
The museum, called ‘Kalakuta Republic’ had a grand opening ceremony performed by the late singer’s daughter Yeni Kuti and a representative of the Lagos State government.
The museum has several bedrooms, sitting rooms, a roof-top bar and restaurant, and showcased several of Fela’s clothes and shoes, as well as photographs.
Fela’s artist, Lemmy Ghariokwu has been announced as the curator for the museum.
Earlier in the day, a symposium tagged ‘Fela the Great: Corruption and Generation Next’ was held at the NECA House auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Speakers at the symposium included Feti Atta, Ndidi Nwuneli, Supo Sasore and Professor Michael Veal. It was moderated by Prince Yemisi Shyllon.
