The Osun State government has confirmed the death of Olufunke Kolawole, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of General Services, Office of the Governor, Osun State.
Kolawole, according to reports, was waylaid and hacked to death by some unknown assailants on her way to Abuja from Osogbo on Thursday.
She was kidnapped along the Okene-Abuja highway and dragged into the bush, while her driver was beaten to a coma.
Her body was later found by the roadside, reportedly with several machete cuts.
She was said to be on her way to the inauguration of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Abiola Adewemimo, who was appointed as one of the judges of the Industrial Court.
The sad development has been confirmed by the Osun State Head of Service, Sunday Owoeye.
Owoeye said in a statement: ‘On behalf of the forum of Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries, Tutors-General, Accountant-General, Auditors-General and Surveyor-General, and with rude shock and a deep sense of loss, I announce the untimely death of Mrs. Olufunke Kolawole, who was brutally attacked by kidnappers while travelling along the Okene – Abuja highway on her way to Abuja on Thursday, July 12, 2017 for an official assignment.
‘Until her death, Mrs. Kolawole was the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of General Services, Office of the Governor, State of Osun.
‘The forum commiserates with the families of the deceased, the entire public service and the State Government of Osun on this irreparable loss.’
