President of the Academy Awards, Cheryl Boone Isaacs was joined by actor John Krasinski and directors Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee to announce the nominees in all 24 categories hours ago, while Chris Rock will host the 88th annual Academy Awards on February 28, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
We see ‘The Revenant’ and ‘Mad Max’ as the biggest threat to other nominees, here’s WHY…
‘The Revenant’ – a film based on a novel of the same name by Michael Punke and inspired by the experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass – leads the way with 12 Academy Award nominations.
Star Leonardo DiCaprio will vie for Best Actor, Alejandro G Inarritu is up for Best Director, Tom Hardy has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor and the movie will compete for Best Picture.
Other nominations include Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Cinematography.
While ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ – which is the fourth installment in the action movie Mad Max franchise- also grabbed an impressive 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Cinematography and Best Director for George Miller.
These two movies, with 22 nominations between them, are definitely the heavyweights of this year’s Oscars and are sure to win at least 10 awards amongst them.
Meanwhile, ‘The Martian’ has seven nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for its star Matt Damon and ‘Star Wars’ is nominated for five Oscars
It’s going to be fun in Los Angeles on February 28!
