Are you wondering what songs you should be listening to this week? Don’t worry, we got you covered.
1. Khalid – ‘Location’
We are starting this week’s playlist with one of the coolest and cleanest songs of 2017. Newcomer, Khalid’s voice hits the spot on the minimalist production and trust us when we say that you’ll have this song on replay for a long time.
2. Nonso Amadi – ‘Tonight’
Another new artiste that has left a dazzling sonic footprint on 2017 is Nigeria’s very own SoundCloud star, Nonso Amadi.
His vocals coupled with the synth-heavy production may have you doubting that he’s a Nigerian artiste. For maximum enjoyment, you have to groove to this with headphones.
3. Lecrae – ‘I’ll Find You’ ft. Tori Kelly
One of our favourite things about gospel rapper, Lecrae, is the fact that his flow is so tight that we sometimes forget that he’s even a gospel rapper.
For this inspirational tune, Lecrae gets Tori Kelly and her killer tubes for a collaboration that does not disappoint.
4. Diamond Platnumz – ‘Fire’ ft. Tiwa Savage
Since we already have the ball rolling on collaborations that do not disappoint we might as well listen to this fire track. Diamond Platnumz’s vocals are the star of this track without a doubt.
His clean vocals are complemented perfectly by the colourful instrumentation. That said, Tiwa Savage held her own. We wish Tiwa’s lyrics were a bit stronger, though. Then again, most of the time, we had no idea what Platnumz was saying.
5. Soma Apex – ‘Liquor’
While it is true many Big Brother Naija contestants are coming out as musicians, it is also equally true that many of them are not worth listening to. Soma, however, stands out from the pack.
‘Liquor’ may not get the radio play or exposure that it deserves but it is definitely a great listen. With his breezy vocals, well thought out lyrics and clean production, Soma will have you in the zone.
6. Taylor Swift – ‘…Ready For It?’
We were disappointed when Ms. Swift dropped the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ as the first single from her upcoming album, ‘Reputation’. While the first offering from the album might have missed the mark, you shouldn’t count ‘Reputation’ out yet.
Why? Her latest single, ‘…Ready For It?’, which she dropped on Sunday is great. The Kanye West influenced track is firecracker track and it displays Taylor at her fiercest. Radio friendly with a bit of edge, there’s still hope that ‘Reputation’ will be an album to be reckoned with.
7. Falz and Simi – ‘Enough’
We are closing this week’s playlist with arguably Nigeria’s best music duo, so good together we still wonder how this is not beyond studio love.
Falz and Simi were on another level in their joint EP, ‘Chemistry’ and that chemistry really was evident in this single.
