Shola Ogudu

I have been reading the revelations of Shola, a baby mama of Wizkid who has a son by him.

According to her munched conversations with Wizkid, she alleges that he has not been responsible for Tife, his first son she gave birth to.

Wizkid says otherwise. From what I have read in his responses, he sends money at times, maybe not all the time and it seems Shola’s anger is that he doesn’t see his son Tife more often as he sees his obvious favourite, Zion, by another Baby Mama. She also sounds pained that he doesn’t seem to care for her in emotional portions she would have preferred.

As expected, social media is on fire with many people taking sides. The Nigerian Feminists have found new fodder and the worn-out ‘Men are scum’ brigade have popped up somewhere with their vitriol. Core fans of Wizkid have also been blasting Shola and calling her names, with some saying she had hoped to trap him with a pregnancy in the early years of his career. Shola’s sympathisers respond by saying ‘if you cum inside without protection, you must be ready to accept what comes after the cum’.

Amazing.

I absolutely agree that guys who get women preggers should be responsible fully for the child which follows even if it is an out of wedlock affair. But I also advise ladies who become single mothers to find their own sources of livelihood too, not depending fully on the wallet of your child’s daddy.

However, I do remember too that there was a time about six years ago or thereabouts when male celebrity baiting was common among young girls in this entertainment industry. It was almost becoming something of a new industry. It isn’t anything new though. Our older legends from the sixties through the nineties in Nigeria had kids from different women. Whether such spawned by the older brigade were by Baiting Mothers or through staple philandering is another matter altogether. The point here is that when male entertainers are young, wild and at the peak of their careers, they are open season for fawning female fans out for a good time or desperate lassies intent on entrapment.

I was told of an incident which happened a few years ago when some stars in the movie and music sector in Nigeria found themselves camped in one hotel outside Lagos for an event. After the successful event, there was a party in the hotel hall and with an array of stars in the city, the party was not short of ladies. A colleague told me that as he was walking down a corridor to his room, he saw the door of one of the then top singers a bit ajar. The singer had been tipsy earlier at the party and had left the party with a young lady. My colleague said he was curious on why the door was slightly ajar and peeped. On the bed was the plastered and sleeping singer who was being undressed by the young lady who brought out his penis and tried inserting it into her vagina. The singer’s penis was flaccid as he was drunk and must have passed out immediately he got into the room. The desperate young girl kept trying and trying, almost weeping in frustration.

The peeping colleague knew he had to do something. He burst into the room, pretending to be also tipsy and flopped on the bed, startling the young lady.

‘Is my roommate asleep?’he asked noisily. He became a nuisance and the angry young lady hissed afterwards and left.

In the morning, when he told the sober singer what happened, the singer was grateful and shocked.

These things happen.

Whatever the reasons for such pregnancies, I absolutely agree that the fathers must be responsible to the children from such trysts or temptations.

Allow me use some Pidgin English for my next points.

If dem set nyansh for you as a guy, use your head think and not your prick. If you come use your prick think that time, ready your pocket pay for the pikin after o.

To do dey sweet like nothing else; to pay na yawa sometimes but there is no excuse in the end.

If you take the dip, you must pay the tip and never flip.

Responsibility. Take responsibility.
