One of Nigeria’s most successful and most decorated actresses, Genevieve Nnaji turns 39 years old today.
Born on May 3, 1979, Genevieve started her acting career as a child star in the popular late 1980s soap opera, ‘Ripples’. Her first major break into the mainstream Nollywood movie scene when she starred in the 1998 blockbuster ‘Most Wanted’ alongside A-listers such as Regina Askia, Ibinabo Fabresima, Bob Manuel Udoku amongst others.
Described as the Julia Roberts of Africa by popular Media mogul Oprah Winfrey, Geneveive has enjoyed a successful career, starring in over a 100 movies for which she has been nominated and has won numerous awards. She became the first actress to be awarded Best Actress at the 2001 City Peoples Awards. She won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actress to win the award.
