Nigeria’s Super Eagles will tomorrow, July 17 play their final game in the AFCON 2019 tournament as they take on the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the Third place match. Both teams are practically on a scramble for the bronze cup and the game is expected to wrap up their campaign in Egypt.
Nigeria fell behind in the tournament after losing 2-1 to Algeria in their semi-finals game on Sunday. A last-minute goal from a close range free kick by Mahrez denied the Super Eagles a chance to progress into the final.
So, the third place match which will hold at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo by 8pm tomorrow seems like an opportunity to redeem themselves and not return empty-handed. The Super Eagles are expected to take up the reins against Tunisia who also lost their chance of reaching the final after losing to Senegal in the semis.
Both teams are under pressure from their fans to outperform each other and this will definitely play out in the way they approach the game. After meeting each other severally and drawing their last five games, the match is not going to be a walk in the park for either of the teams.
To achieve a favourable result, the head coach of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr and Alain Giresse of Tunisia would have to pull some tricks that will change the dynamics of the game.
