Nigeria’s national team will be playing West African rivals Senegal in a friendly holding London today, March 23, 2017.
It would be the first meeting between both teams since 2006 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The Super Eagles defeated Senegal 1-0 on February 9, 2006 to finish third in the competition hosted and won by Egypt.
Now, in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Gernot Rohr’s men will face off against the Lions of Teranga at The Hive Stadium, in London.
Among those in camp for the Super Eagles are Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi, Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Leicester City duo, Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa.
Chelsea’s Victor Moses is also expected to feature in today’s match.
The match would also see Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, and his Senegal team-mates which include Idrissa Gueye, Cheikhou Kouyate, Alfred N’Diaye and Mame Biram Diouf play their first game since their AFCON 2017 exit.
The Nigerian national team failed to qualify for the 2017 AFCON, while Senegal’s hope of lifting the title ended in the quarterfinals after a 5-4 defeat on penalties to eventually winners, Cameroon.
According to reports from Barnet FC, owners of the match venue, ticket sales for the match between the African teams have been poor, having projected a League Two attendance between 1,400 and 1,900, which would still leave around 4,000 empty seats.
However, there’s hope to get more ticket sales before the match kicks off at 9p.m. Nigerian time.
