As President Buhari basks in the euphoria of his recent triumph at the general elections when he won a second term, his work is not quite done. Nigerians still have several economic and infrastructural issues: roads are still bad, healthcare is still a challenge, policemen still mistreat citizens, politicians never fulfil their campaign promises and so on. The task for the president is to lead well…
Except that African China had sung about all of these, thirteen years ago. In the title track of the album, he wailed and complained of all the inadequacies of government as he appealed to the leaders. “Make una lead us well/ No let this nation to fall inside well/Mr. President, lead us well/ If you be governor, govern us well/ If you be senator, Senate am well/ If you be police, police well well no dey take bribe.”
While it is disheartening that issues that were talked about in 2006 are still the ones being talked about in 2009, we hope that Mr President takes a cue from ‘China and leads the country well.
