Election period in Nigeria is usually a very interesting period which sees a number of campaign jingles to help create awareness and garner support for the aspirant.
Here are five campaign jingles that were hits since 1993 which Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry.
HOPE 1993
This jingle was very popular in 1993 when the late MKO Abiola of the SDP was contesting against Bashiru Tofa of NRC. The song became a popular household anthem and still brings back memories twenty-five years after.
EVERYBODY LOVES JIMI AGBAJE 2007
This was a tune a lot of people hummed to which made the then gubernatorial aspirant gain a lot of popularity.
LAGOS LIKE KORO 2007
2007 saw a number of campaign jingles and one popular one was by Lagos gubernatorial aspirant Musiliu Obanikoro. The jingle put the aspirant in the faces of the masses with radio and television airplay.
I GO VOTE FOR GOODLUCK 2011
This campaign performed by D’banj held a lot of campaign promises for the masses by the former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.
GBABE 2015
Popular Nigerian artistes – Yemi Alade, Olamide, Banky W, Flavour, Ice Prince, MI and Dammy Krane were brought together to record a song for Akinwunmi Ambode, APC, who was contesting against Jimi Agbaje of PDP. The song became a hit dance track that some forgot it was actually a campaign song.
