At the YouTube Afrobeats event which held in Lagos yesterday, singer Reekado Banks announced that he will be releasing a new album in 2020. He made the statement during a Q&A session hosted by actor, Akah Nnani. The project will be Reekado’s first full-length project since his departure from Mavin Records back in 2018. A title was not announced for the album.
To be honest, the singer has not been doing bad for himself since his departure from the legacy label to form his own Banks Music. The YouTube event at which he announced the new album is one sign of how Reekado Banks has been moving.
The YouTube partnership will include artiste development and trainings as well as support from YouTube Music regarding international distribution. This is in line with commitments made by YouTube VP and legendary music exec, Lyor Cohen at the Google for Nigeria event earlier this year.
Partnerships aside, Reekado Banks has also been dropping hit singles and collaborations since his departure perhaps a sign that he has matured as an artiste during his time at Mavin.
His most recent single “Rora”, which features talented guitarist Femi Leye, has enjoyed immense airplay since its release on September 6, 2019. The visualizer video currently has over seven million views on YouTube.
As it stands, the stars are aligned for Reekado Banks and hopefully that shines through on his next project. Till it drops, Reekado’s moves will be interesting to follow.
