Although globally known and respected, British supermodel Naomi Campbell has off and on been on the lips of Nigerians in the past three weeks and partly is as a result of her kind gesture towards Lagos-based kids dance group – Dream Catchers.
Earlier in March, the supermodel had shared a video of the kids dancing excitedly to the Wizkid assisted single “Nowo” by DJ Spinall. As a result, global music heavyweights Rihanna and Diddy also got wind of the dancing kids and shared their videos respectively; thereby catapulting them to the lenses of the globe.
Dream Catchers is a team of underprivileged/homeless children whose welfare from education to shelter are taken care of by the group’s founder, Seyi Oluyole.

Naomi Campbell, currently in Nigeria for the ongoing Arise Fashion Week has gone on to further identify with the Dream Catchers Dance Group. On Sunday, April 1st, Campbell made a trip to the dancers residence in Ikorodu – a suburb in Lagos Nigeria.
Although Naomi Campbell’s visit wasn’t a total surprise as she had been in touch with the group and promised to visit upon her arrival to Nigeria, Seyi Oluyole explains that clips being distributed on social media only captured a fraction of the overwhelming excitement herself and the kids felt.
A rollercoaster of mixed emotions is how one can best describe her over thirty minutes stay with the kids. They danced, laughed and shed a few tears as Campbell sought to understand their harsh reality and also made sure to leave them with strong words of encouragement.
On whether or not the model made any sort of tangible commitments, Seyi explained that Campbell’s promise was to come visit the kids and that, she has fulfilled.
She also disclosed that a lot of food items were given and even though heavy financial commitments weren’t made, having a bigshot like Campbell identify with them not just on social media but also in real life is a major accomplishement for them and will continue to serve as a source of motivation and encouragement.
Everything that’s happening has strengthened the faith of the group and Seyi believes that the year will bring a lot of opportunities their way. “I know that it will definitely happen. We’ve been trying to get the attention of people for a while and when it happened, it came from an unexpected place. It’s right in front of everyone’s face now. It will definitely happen”.
